British Association for Surgery of the Knee

The Spring meeting of BASK was held remotely from Ashton Gate in Bristol. Sessions were chaired and presented by faculty consisting of small groups of socially distancing expert surgeons with lectures then provided by invited speakers, many of whom were International leaders in their fields. This format worked suprisingly well and allowed delegates to drop into sessions of interest and to transmit live questions to the faculty.

South East Knee Study Group

Nineteen surgeons attended this virtual meeting to present and discuss clinical cases and to listen to an expert guest lecture on meniscal surgery delivered by Prof Rene Verdonk, Head of the Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology at the Ghent University Hospital and Emeritus Professor at Ghent University.

Robotic assisted Knee Replacement at the Nuffield Hospital

In preparation for our local program of robotic assisted knee replacement a Navio robotic system has been installed in the orthopaedic operating theatre at the Nuffield Hospital and training is being provided to our theatre staff prior to its commissioning. Paul Gibb & Nick Bowman received training in the use of the robotic tool last year and have been preparing for its arrival for several months.

South East Knee Study Group

This rescheduled meeting of the South East Knee Study Group focused on the topic of robotic assisted knee replacement and was held virtually using microsoft teams. Eighteen surgeons attended to discuss clinical cases and listen to an expert guest lecture on robotic knee surgery provided by Dinesh Nathwani of Imperial College London.
