Conditions Treated
Patella tendonitis
Patella tendonitis is an inflammation of the patella tendon close to its insertion into the bottom of the kneecap, and results in the development of anterior knee pain, usually fairly well localised to the kneecap and adjacent patella tendon, and reliably exacerbated by activity. The diagnosis is usually confirmed by medical imaging and the condition usually responds to conservative treatment consisting of specific physiotherapy exercises including eccentric quadriceps contractions.
In rare cases or cases resistant to conservative treatment, and particularly when inflammation is associated with the presence of a spike of bone irritating the tendon, surgical treatment may be required which is usually undertaken arthroscopically.
