Navio Robotic assisted knee replacement
Paul Gibb visited the Smith & Nephew Surgical training centre in Watford to train in the use of the Smith & Nephew Navio robotic tool whilst performing both partial and total knee replacement. The Navio system utilises intraoperative mapping and computer navigation. A three dimensional virtual knee model is generated which assists the operating surgeon in accurately sizing and positioning the implants. The hand held robotic tool is controlled by the operating surgeon and its action moderates the effects of their movements.
